Classes for a healthy New Year
With 2018 almost upon us, it’s a great time to think about what positive changes you might like to make in your life. You may not be aware of it, but the Area Agency on Aging 1-B offers wellness classes throughout the year. These classes include Matter of Balance, Powerful Tools for Caregivers, Diabetes PATH Management, Chronic Pain Management, and much more.
Two of the newest classes to the line-up are Chronic Pain Management and Powerful Tools for Caregivers.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers
These workshops are for caregivers, and are held once a week for six weeks with each class lasting for 90 minutes. Class size is limited to 12 people. Caregivers learn how to:
• Relax and reduce stress
• Take better care of themselves
• Reduce guilt, anger and depression
• Communicate effectively with family members, doctors and in-home help • Make tough decisions
• Set goals and problem solve
• Be aware of community resources

Chronic Pain Management
This workshop is designed to help people with long-lasting pain learn techniques and skills to cope with day-to-day life. Topics covered include: dealing with difficult emotions, fatigue and depression, decision making, communication skills, medications, and working with a healthcare provider.
Participants engage in group activities including brainstorming, problem-solving, feedback and planning for success. Classes are held once a week for six weeks, with each class lasting for 2-1⁄2 hours. Class size is limited to 10 –15 people.
