MHCG 4C logo_green heart_blue tagWith men and women reaching age 65 now averaging a life expectancy of an additional 19.2 years, more families will be caring for elderly loved ones who increasingly want to remain living independently and in the safety of their own homes. MichiganHomeCareGuide.com, created and managed by the Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B), a local non-profit serving seniors and adults with disabilities, is designed to help seniors and family caregivers in Southeast Michigan find quality in-home care.

MichiganHomeCareGuide.com is a comprehensive site that offers informative articles on aging and caregiving in addition to home care company listings. It’s a free, unbiased community resource from the Southfield-based AAA 1-B, which services the six-county region of Southeast Michigan.

“This website is a great place to start when looking for home care,” said Tina Abbate Marzolf, CEO of the AAA 1-B.  “We help connect seniors, disabled adults and family caregivers with quality in-home care agencies in six-county area of coverage.

“The site was designed to be very consumer-friendly — users will be delighted by the easy-to-use search functions that help identify which companies are serving particular areas, and the ratings and reviews written by other users help in comparing service quality and selecting the home care company that meet your needs.”

The site focuses on three broad areas:  Finding a home care agency, rating and offering reviews of home care agency and searching or browsing care articles. Among the most popular subjects of the site, for example, are articles on Questions to Ask When Hiring a Paid Caregiver, Medicare: Know Your Rights as a Medicare Beneficiary and Coping with Memory Loss.

MichiganHomeCareGuide.com is complemented by a Facebook page (Facebook.com/MichiganHomeCareGuide) that provides a forum for caregivers and family members to exchange ideas, share experiences and discuss issues of mutual concern.
