Senior Center

Transportation

  • Service is provided Monday-Friday from 8:30-4. Port Huron center also offers service on Wednesdays until 9 PM. Provides transportation to medical appointments, shopping, and errands. Transportation available throughout St. Clair County through a network of Senior Center transportation resources. Will consider request for transportation for medical appointments outside of the county. Provides door to door service. Vehicles are wheelchair accessible.
  • Must be age 60 or older or handicapped and a resident of St. Clair County. Requires at least 24 hour advance notice for reservations. Medical transportation is given first priority.

Tax Preparation 

  • Volunteers assist with homestead property tax and home heating credit forms. Assistance available February-April. Assistance may be provided for homebound seniors in their own home.
  • Must be age 60 or older and a resident of St. Clair County.

In-Home Respite

  • In home services provides personal care, light housekeeping, laundry, shopping, and respite care. Aides are not certified.
  • Must be age 60 or older and a resident of St. Clair County.

Chores

  • Chore program: Will do heavy housecleaning chores including carpet cleaning, window and wall washing, and basement and garage cleaning. Other services include winterizing windows and doors, snow removal, and yard clean-up. Agency also has names of private workers that can be hired for a fee to do a variety of home and yard maintenance tasks.
  • Must be age 60 or older and a resident of St. Clair County. 

Home Repair & Ramp Construction

  • Home repair program: Will do minor electrical, plumbing, and carpentry which may include ramp construction.
  • Home injury control program: Provides and installs home safety devices such as smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms, grab bars, handrails, bath benches, and hand held shower hose.
  • Must be age 60 or older and a resident of St. Clair County. Home injury control: Call for application and income guidelines.

Friendly Visitors

  • The friendly visiting program provides volunteers of all ages who visit homebound older adults.
  • Must be age 60 or older and a resident of St. Clair County.

Assistive Equipment Loan

  • Loan closet provides canes, walkers, wheelchairs, shower benches, commode seats, and raised toilet seats. No limitations on time equipment can be borrowed.
