Caregiver Champions Contest Gives Family Caregivers Chance to win $500

AgeWays knows caring for an aging family member can be both challenging and rewarding. As an organization committed to enhancing the quality of life of older adults, we want to recognize those who are daily champions in caring for an older loved one. Do you know someone who is caring for an older loved one or family member who goes above and beyond and also uses local community resources and services from organizations like AgeWays ? Does the person they are caring for live in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair or Washtenaw County?

If yes, nominate them for the AgeWays 2019 Caregiver Champions Award! (You can nominate yourself too! Don’t be shy. It’s OK to toot your own horn.)

We are going to pick one winner from each of our six counties (That could be you or the person you nominate!) That person will win $500 and will also be honored at our upcoming Caregiver Champions Caregiver Appreciation and Awards Luncheon, happening on Saturday, November 16 at the Troy Marriott. The day is a fun day of pampering, appreciation and recognition–just for family caregivers. It includes a three-course lunch, resource expo, giveaways and a keynote address from former WDIV weatherman, Chuck Gaidica. The event is open to all. Tickets are just $15. Learn more and purchase tickets here!

How to Nominate Someone

Visit our contest submission page and answer some questions about your caregiving situation. We’ll then ask you to include an essay/narrative describing how you (or the caregiver you’re nominating) reaches out for help and incorporates outside supports (this could be Adult Day, getting help at home through a program or company,  Meals on Wheels, an educational class or support group, or seeking help at your house of worship or from family and friends). We’d also love to hear how the awesome caregiver you’re writing about takes time to take care of themselves and manage stress. So please include some information about how you (or your nominee) take care of you while taking care of your loved one. Yoga? Reading? Meditation? Exercise? Volunteering? A daily walk? We want to hear how you find a space for yourself and the things you love while caregiving.  You’ll have up to 700 words for the essay. You can type directly in the box provided or type the narrative on a separate document and upload it. We would love to see a photo too (although it’s not required) and we’ve included a spot to upload a photo as well.
