AgeWays Staff Work to Help Other Nonprofits

Day of Giving Strengthens Agency’s Community Bonds

From weeding and mowing to shredding old office documents to packing frozen veggies to delivering meals to homebound seniors, 122 staffers from Area Agency on Agency 1-B rolled up their sleeves and got busy volunteering in October for community partners that included Lighthouse, Meals on Wheels, Gleaners Food Bank Distribution Center and Hope Clinic.

The Agency Give-Back was part of an initiative to foster camaraderie among our own employees and with staff at other nonprofits and to offer a helping hand.

Where We Helped:

Lighthouse of Oakland County (Pontiac): Offers shelter to men, women and children; operates a food pantry; offers rental and housing assistance; provides care management to people who’ve transitioned to permanent housing.

Meals on Wheels: Offers twice-daily meals to homebound seniors. AgeWays supports 11 programs in our 6-county region.

Gleaners Food Bank: Operates five distribution centers in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties, providing food to nearly 530 soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and other agencies. On average, Gleaners distributes 96,000 meals each day.

Hope Clinic (Ypsilanti and Westland): Offers free medical and dental care and operates a food pantry.
